What was wrong

This Ethan Allen pine desk arrived buried under decades of dark stain with surface scratches across the top and a finish that had gone flat and tired.
Underneath, the solid knotty pine was still there—warm, characterful, and worth bringing back into the light.

What we did

• Full strip of the existing dark stain and finish from all surfaces (top, drawers, sides, and tapered legs).
• Thorough surface preparation to bring the natural pine to a clean, even condition.
• Scratch and surface repair on the top panel before finishing.
• New clear/lightly tinted finish applied to enhance and protect the natural pine tone.
• Original brass hardware cleaned and reinstalled throughout.

Care tips

• Use a desk pad and felt pads under accessories; avoid dragging objects across the top.
• Clean with a soft microfiber cloth; avoid harsh chemical cleaners.
• Wipe spills promptly; avoid prolonged moisture and heat exposure.
• If the sheen begins to dull in high-use areas, book maintenance early.
