What We Repair
Almost every piece of wood furniture can be saved. Here’s what comes through our shop on a weekly basis.
- Scratches, dents, gouges, burn marks. Burn-in fills, color-matched touch-up, localized refinishing.
- Broken chair legs, rungs, spindles, arms, backs. Repair or full custom fabrication in matching wood.
- Loose or failing joints. Hide-glue re-gluing for antiques, PVA for modern pieces, doweled rebuilds where needed.
- Split tops and cracked panels. Stabilization, dutchman patches, invisible fills.
- Water damage. Swollen wood, water rings, blackened stains, delaminated veneer, warped tops.
- Veneer damage. Lifted, chipped, or missing veneer replaced with matching wood.

Our Wood Furniture Repair Process
1. Photo Estimate
Text a photo to (970) 493-8737 or email shop@gmrestores.com. For most freestanding pieces that’s all we need to give you a real number. No obligation, no pressure.
2. Honest Diagnosis
When your piece comes into the shop, we assess wood species, joinery, finish type, and damage scope. We tell you what can be repaired without refinishing, what needs rebuilding, and what honestly isn’t worth saving. No upsells, no scope creep.
3. Structural Repair
Loose joints re-glued with hide glue for antiques or modern PVA where appropriate. Split panels stabilized. Broken or missing parts fabricated from matching solid stock in walnut, oak, mahogany, cherry, maple, pine, birch, or teak.
4. Surface Repair
Scratches, gouges, dents, water rings, and burn marks are addressed with burn-in fills, color-matched wood fillers, and localized touch-up. Whenever the original finish is salvageable, we preserve it.
5. Finish Work
When refinishing is required, we choose the right finish for the piece: ML Campbell conversion varnish for high-durability surfaces, traditional shellac or French polish for antiques, oil finishes where the wood species and use call for it. When the existing finish must come off entirely, we handle that in-house through our furniture stripping service.
6. Color Matching
This is where most shops fall short. Our finishers hand-blend stains and toners until the repair disappears into the surrounding wood. New drawer? Fabricated leg? Replaced veneer? You should not be able to tell.
7. Free Pickup and Delivery
Throughout Fort Collins, Loveland, Windsor, Greeley, Wellington, Timnath, and the greater Denver metro area. Learn more about our Denver metro furniture restoration service area.
Recent Wood Furniture Repair Projects
Every piece has a story. Here are a few recent projects that show the range of repair work we do, from moving-day disasters to custom fabrication to full antique restoration.
- Oval Mahogany Table Lip Repair. A moving company broke the lip trim clean off this table and couldn’t produce the missing piece. We made a mold of the original profile, fabricated a new lip from scratch, and blended the stain and sheen against the table’s banded inlay so seamlessly you would never know.
- Danish Skovby SM32 Dining Table. Shattered base, broken extension mechanism, and damaged cherry top after a tumble down eight stairs during a move. Full pedestal rebuild, mechanism realignment, and top refinish. Now glides open like the day it left the factory in Denmark.
- Antique Oak Dresser Restoration. Custom drawer fabrication, color matching, and hand-applied French polish on a piece that arrived missing more than a few surface details.
- Antique Carved Table Base with Custom Walnut Top. An extraordinary carved base with lion heads, grotesque faces, and acanthus leaves arrived with no top. We fabricated a solid walnut top from scratch and finished it in ML Campbell conversion varnish.

Why Fort Collins Trusts G. Michael’s
20+ years restoring Northern Colorado’s wood furniture. Our shop on Hickory Street is staffed by master craftsmen, not flippers, not handymen. We do the kind of repair work that most modern shops turn away: hand-cut joinery, traditional finishing, custom fabrication of missing parts, antique conservation.
We work where others won’t. When a mover tells you your grandmother’s dining table is ‘totaled.’ When a big-box refacer says the piece has to be replaced. When someone else quoted the job and never called back. That is our daily work.
We honor the piece. A wood piece that has been in your family for generations is not a project. It is a story. We treat it that way. The same principles that guide Colorado’s State Historic Preservation Office at History Colorado shape our approach to every heirloom: preserve original material wherever possible, repair invisibly, and never do anything that cannot be undone by a future restorer.

Wood Furniture Repair FAQs
How much does wood furniture repair cost in Fort Collins?
Pricing depends entirely on the piece and the damage. Simple scratch or finish touch-ups may start around $100 to $200. Broken chair rebuilds and joint repairs typically run $200 to $600. Full custom fabrication, structural rebuilds, or extensive water-damage repair can range from $500 to several thousand. Every quote is free and custom. Send a photo to shop@gmrestores.com or call (970) 493-8737.
Can you fix deep scratches, gouges, and dents?
Yes. We repair deep scratches, gouges, dents, and burn marks using traditional burn-in fills, color-matched wood fillers, and localized finish touch-up. Most repairs blend invisibly with the surrounding surface without requiring a full refinish.
Can you rebuild broken chair legs, rungs, or spindles?
Yes. We rebuild broken chair legs, rungs, spindles, arms, and backs, either by repairing the original piece or fabricating a replacement in matching wood species. We work in oak, walnut, cherry, mahogany, maple, pine, and mid-century woods including birch and teak.
Can water-damaged wood furniture be saved?
Most water-damaged wood furniture can be saved. We repair swollen wood, delaminated veneer, water rings, blackened stains, and warped tops through controlled drying, sanding, veneer replacement, and refinishing. Damage that appears catastrophic is often fully recoverable.
Can you fix furniture damaged by movers?
Yes. Moving damage is one of the most common repairs we handle. Broken tabletops, shattered pedestals, snapped legs, missing trim, and lost hardware can all be rebuilt. When trim or parts are missing entirely, we fabricate replacements from a mold or custom pattern. See our oval mahogany table lip repair for one example.
Do you repair antique wood furniture?
Yes. Antique repair is one of our specialties. Whenever possible we preserve the original finish and use traditional methods including hide glue and hand-rubbed shellac. Full restoration is available when the piece requires it through our antique furniture restoration service.
Do you offer pickup and delivery?
Yes. Free pickup and delivery throughout Fort Collins, Loveland, Windsor, Greeley, and the greater Denver metro area including Boulder, Aurora, Lakewood, Arvada, and Evergreen.
How long does wood furniture repair take?
Most repairs are completed in 1 to 4 weeks depending on scope. Simple touch-ups and structural fixes turn around faster; full refinishes, custom fabrication, and extensive damage repair typically take 3 to 6 weeks. You receive a firm timeline with every estimate.
