Certificate of Restoration

About this restoration
This matched pair of side tables came through our Fort Collins shop for a full strip and refinish. Because the two pieces needed to read identically when delivered, the work was handled as a matched set from the beginning: same preparation stages, same finish development, same topcoat build, and final evaluation together under the same lighting.
What was wrong
The tables had surface failure from active use: dense micro-scratching across the tops, cloudy areas where the topcoat had lost clarity, white moisture rings and splash marks, and finish thinning on edges and leg faces. The structure and joinery were sound, so this was primarily a finish problem rather than a wood or structural problem.
What we did
- Processed both tables in parallel so color absorption, finish build, cure, and sheen would match across the pair.
- Fully stripped the existing finish from both pieces down to bare wood before rebuilding the surface.
- Sanded all surfaces carefully including tops, aprons, leg faces, corners, and edge profiles.
- Developed a deep charcoal finish with controlled transparency so the wood’s open pore texture remained visible.
- Built a low-sheen protective topcoat evenly across both pieces for a refined, durable surface.
- Maintained crisp edge profiles with a clean arris detail so the top plane reads clearly against the apron and legs.
- Evaluated both tables together under ambient and raking light before delivery to confirm matched tone, sheen, and finish quality.
Care tips
- Use coasters, felt pads, and placemats to protect the dark finish from moisture rings and fine scratches.
- Lift objects instead of dragging them across the top surface.
- Dust with a soft microfiber cloth; avoid abrasive pads, harsh cleaners, silicone sprays, ammonia, and alcohol-heavy products.
- Wipe spills promptly so moisture does not sit on the finish film.
- Keep both tables away from prolonged direct sunlight, high humidity, and heat vents.
- If one table begins to dull or wear differently from the other, book maintenance early so the matched-set look is preserved.
