Certificate of Restoration

What was wrong
This 1960s hexagonal pine gun cabinet arrived locked with no key, a heavily worn finish, fragile original 1/16 inch glass, tired interior felt, and outdated fluorescent lighting.
The upper display section and base had strong potential, but the piece needed a full multi-trade restoration—not just a surface touch-up.
What we did
- Lock service completed with the original lock picked and a new key fabricated without damaging the cabinet.
- Glass upgraded from fragile 1/16 inch panels to safer, clearer 3/16 tempered glass throughout.
- Interior lighting replaced with dual 12-inch COB LED strips with color-changing capability and remote control.
- New wool felt installed throughout the upper cabinet interior for protection and period-appropriate presentation.
- Complete wood restoration and refinish on both the glazed upper section and hexagonal base.
Care tips
- Clean glass with a soft cloth and glass-safe cleaner; avoid overspray on the wood finish.
- Dust wood surfaces with a microfiber cloth; avoid harsh chemical cleaners or silicone polishes.
- Keep interior felt dry and free of grit or debris that could transfer to stored/displayed items.
- If the lock, lighting, or finish begins to act up, book maintenance early before forcing any hardware.
