Detail view of scissor legs and restored walnut tone
Detail: Scissor-leg geometry restored with consistent tone and sheen

What was wrong

These mid-century lounge chairs came in with frame finish that had dulled and worn unevenly—especially on the curved scissor legs where contact and handling take the biggest toll.
The condition assessment showed the wear was too inconsistent for touch-up work, so the correct solution was a full strip and refinish of both frames as a matched pair.

What we did

  • Full assessment of both chair frames and scissor-leg geometry before refinishing began.
  • Complete strip and surface preparation on all curved legs and frame components.
  • Hand preparation on curves to avoid flat spots and preserve the continuous arc of the legs.
  • Warm walnut tone development matched across both chairs under multiple lighting conditions.
  • Trade coordination with Sparrow House of Design for reupholstery sequencing and final paired review.

Care tips

  • Lift chairs when moving; avoid dragging scissor legs across hard floors.
  • Dust frames with a microfiber cloth; avoid harsh chemical cleaners.
  • Wipe spills promptly; avoid prolonged moisture and heat exposure.
  • If finish wear returns at high-contact points, book maintenance early.
