What was wrong
These Windsor armchairs were structurally sound—tight joinery, solid seats, and correct form—but the finish had worn away over years of use in the highest-contact areas. The arms and spindles showed clear deterioration and uneven sheen, making the wear impossible to ignore.
What we did
- Thorough cleaning of both chairs to remove contaminants and prep the surface for finish work.
- Targeted finish touch-up on worn areas (arms and spindles) to rebuild protection and appearance.
- Full-surface blending to match tone and sheen from seat to crest rail without visible repair lines.
- Sheen and character matching to preserve the original finish look rather than over-refinishing.
Care tips
- Dust with a microfiber cloth; avoid abrasive pads on arms and spindles.
- Wipe hand oils and spills promptly; avoid harsh household cleaners.
- Keep away from prolonged direct sunlight and heat vents to reduce finish drying.
- If wear returns in high-contact areas, book maintenance early to prevent deeper finish failure.
