What was wrong
Movers broke the curved lip trim clean off an oval mahogany dining table—and the broken piece never made it back, so there was nothing to reglue. The repair zone sat beside banded inlay and a high-sheen finish, meaning the profile, stain tones, and sheen had to match perfectly or the repair would read immediately.
What we did
- Assessed the damaged edge and the intact original lip profile.
- Created a mold from the undamaged trim to capture the exact cross-section and geometry.
- Fabricated a replacement lip section from raw stock and curved it to follow the oval perimeter.
- Multi-tone stain matching to integrate with the banded inlay and surrounding mahogany surfaces.
- Finish blending so sheen and reflectivity match under raking light with no visible transition line.
Care tips
- Use coasters and felt pads; avoid dragging objects along the edge profile.
- Clean with a soft microfiber cloth; avoid harsh chemical cleaners.
- Wipe spills promptly and avoid prolonged moisture/heat exposure.
- If the edge takes a hit or the sheen dulls in high-use areas, book maintenance early.
