What was wrong

This Heywood-Wakefield dresser arrived with significant finish degradation across all surfaces. The top panel showed the worst damage, with deep scratch patterns and long-term dullness, and the drawer faces, tambour door, and legs had lost the clean, even blonde tone that defines original Heywood-Wakefield factory finish.

What we did

  • Veneer-safe surface preparation through controlled stripping and sanding appropriate to birch construction.
  • Tambour-door careful prep to address each slat without damaging edges or gaps.
  • Blonde-tone refinishing built through toning to restore the warm, even factory-style color.
  • Color and sheen alignment across top, drawer faces, tambour door, panels, and legs.
  • Protective topcoat applied to all surfaces for long-term durability.

Care tips

  • Dust with a microfiber cloth; avoid abrasive pads and scouring cleaners.
  • Use coasters/felt pads; avoid dragging items across the top.
  • Wipe spills promptly; avoid prolonged moisture and heat exposure.
  • If the sheen begins to dull in high-use areas, book maintenance early.
