What was wrong
This multi-species butcher block dining table had a visually striking top, but the existing surface no longer let the wood read clearly.
The alternating dark and warm amber wood strips needed careful refinishing so each species could keep its own character without being flattened by a single uniform color.
What we did
- Full condition assessment of the existing finish and surface quality across the entire multi-species top.
- Staged surface preparation accounting for different hardness, porosity, and absorption between species.
- Clear finish system developed to enhance natural color and grain without imposing one unified stain tone.
- Sheen consistency work across species transitions, knot figures, and grain variation throughout the top.
- Final inspection under multiple lighting conditions to confirm depth, clarity, and even surface quality.
Care tips
- Use placemats/coasters and felt pads; avoid dragging items across the surface.
- Clean with a microfiber cloth; avoid harsh chemical cleaners and silicone polishes.
- Wipe spills promptly; avoid prolonged heat and moisture exposure.
- If the sheen begins to dull in high-use areas, book maintenance early.
